7 Tips to Make Your Living Room More Inviting

Our living rooms come in many shapes and sizes, but their essential feature remains the same: creating a gathering spot for friends and family. Unfortunately, sometimes the living room can be forgotten by friends and family. Furniture plays an important role in whether or not your living room will be used. Check out these ways to get the best living room arrangement for your vacation rental.

Use existing design elements as inspiration.

Think in terms of achieving the correct placement of furniture in the room. This means making sure each piece of furniture is placed in the optimal arrangement in the room.

Using existing features, such as a fireplace or window, as organizing tools or starting points will create a sense of order and calm. Arrange you seating to take advantage of a nice view.

Create conversation.

Place the furniture in such a way that the pieces appear to “talk” to one another, meaning chairs are close and convenient enough to invite people to hang out.

Pull furniture away from walls.

Avoid the temptation to push furniture against the walls. Although pulling it away may seem counterintuitive, it will actually improve the sense of spaciousness in a room.

Create visual tension between the TV and the fireplace

It can be difficult to have two natural focal points for a living room, but nowadays increasingly large screens vie for attention as the central feature.

Introduce sculptural lighting.

Conventional design tends to favor corners and rectangular shapes, so bringing in shape can introduce a sculptural element and soften lines. Consider a lamp or a modern couch.

Place art strategically.

Art can give scale and intimacy to a space, and provide a striking focal point in a room that would otherwise lack one. If you’re struggling with how to place your furniture, try placing a dramatic piece of art and using it as a guide.

Get your rug on.

A large rug can anchor the design aesthetic of an entire room. For example, the specific direction of a rug can alter how a room is perceived. You may want to consider different textures and colors within the rug – place furniture fully or partially on the rug for dramatic effect.
