We stayed at the cottage for my momโs 70th birthday. 7 adults, 5 kids under 10. It was the perfect place for our larger group. The cottage was clean and cozy and even better than we anticipated. The kids loved playing in the secluded backyard space. The kitchen was updated and fully stocked. We liked being close to town but also far enough away that it was quiet during a busy festival weekend downtown. Thanks to Patti for her help in putting together a memorable weekend.
My wife and I wanted to create a special event for ourselves, and several members of our extended family, to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. I let Carol - my wife - handle all the arrangements. I had expected something akin to the "standard", summer cabin on a lake ... rustic, but functional. When I paid the bill, I thought to myself, "This seems a bit expensive, but it is worth it for this special event. As soon as I entered the house, I immediately said to myself, "I didn't pay enough!!" The accommodations were more than ample! Everything was extremely comfortable and clean. We lacked for nothing, and truly felt at home. The back yard and its furniture were more than ample for us and our 20 quests we had on Saturday reunion/celebration party. Everyone had a marvelous time. The access to the Lake was great. Our daughters and their husbands completely enjoyed staying with us for an additional two days. Everything was comfortable - like home. The house, and kitchen had all the needed dishes, pots, pans, coffee makers etc. Everyone had a very restful, comfortable time. All the information that we could ever need while staying there was clearly stated in the information sheets provided. There were absolutely NO "oops"! Carol and I can heartily, without hesitation, recommend this rental house to anyone and everyone. Five stars is insufficient -- I didn't pay her enough. Bradford & Carol Hedrick Fishers, Indiana
We stayed here with my husband's family, 12 of us in total, and had a great time. The house was very clean and well maintained. We cooked everyday and found the kitchen to be well stocked with everything we needed. The loft area was a great place for the kids to hang out and it was nice having the second living space. The backyard was great for playing games and sitting around the fire. The beach was a short walk away. Patti, the owner, was wonderful to work with, very responsive and had a lovely gift basket waiting upon our arrival.
My extended family on my dad's side gets together yearly for a trip. We picked the Lakewood Cottage this year in South Haven, MI. I have to say we loved it. It's not lakefront, but it might as well be. You're less than 5 minutes walking from the beach. The water was really cold so, we just walked the beach and enjoyed the view. Sadly, it rained for 2 of 3 full days we were there, but we made the most of it. My family hung out on the amazing front porch and balcony and caught up on our lives and told stories. One night we had a bonfire and made smores. Many board games were played on the kitchen table where many laughs were shared. I can't say enough for this house. It was cleaner and more up to date than most hotels I have stayed in. It was a beautiful home that several of us in my group wished we owned. The house was well kept and the landscaping immaculate. The owner left us a welcome basket with a wonderful note. For us, we had 12 people and we still had a bed or two left. It served us great and I highly recommend it. The kitchen was fully stocked with almost every cooking utensil I could think of. We cooked several full meals for our large group with no problem. If people ever ask me for a recommendation on where to stay in Michigan, I will recommend this place!
We love South Haven and love the Lakewood Cottage. It is beautifully maintained, adorably decorated, perfectly located right off of North Shore Drive and a short stroll to Lake Michigan. This property is everything one could hope for when enjoying a wonderful "old" fashioned family vacation at the beach: we sunned and swam at the beach, cooked gourmet meals in the well equipped kitchen, relaxed on the hammock in the garden, roasted marshmallows over the fire pit in back, played Frisbee and bean bags on the front lawn, ate ice cream at Sherman's, enjoyed our coffee on the front porch listening to the birds and looking up at the sky through the beautiful maple trees. We have been spending a week in the country for the last 15 years or so and this property is the best hands down. Patti is wonderful to work with and the property is cozy and cared for with love. I recommend it to all!
