The owner of this property requires a 25% down payment to reserve and full payment 40 days before check-in.

Deposit Requirements

$200 reservation deposit required. Contracts for 2020 will go out in January 2020. Payment will be accepted lump sum or in installments and must be paid in full 6 weeks prior to stay and date will be addressed in contract.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Bookings cancelled at minimum 7 days before the start of the stay will receive a 50% refund.
Bookings cancelled at minimum 14 days before the start of the stay will receive a 100% refund.

I am willing to refund 100% for family emergency or weather threats. I recognize that there are life problems that happen beyond our control. I will monitor weather through Holden Beach and decide with renters whether they should cancel a trip.

About Penelope

I am a beach and dog lover. I have two grandsons and four granddogs. I am a happily retired Speech Pathologist and I live 2 hours from Holden. I am an accessible homeowner and will answer any questions you might have. Just call me. I hope you will try out What the Shell. I am sure that you will want to return!

Why This Property?

We rented at Holden beach for 10 summers before deciding we needed a place there. This is the perfect house for us, our dogs and grandchildren! It is so close to beach and neighborhood is quiet.

Unique Benefits

You will find something for everyone at Holden Beach. There are lots of good places to eat on the island and nearby and several seafood stores with local catch varieties if you want to cook at home.

We had a wonderful vacation at What The Shell! The location is perfect - far enough down the island so there isn't so much traffic and the beach access is right across the street. We will be back!

This completely renovated 4 bedroom 2 bath house is located on the west end of Holden Beach, NC. It is totally pet friendly with covered and gated front and back porches. This completely renovated 4 bedroom 2 bath house is located on the west end of Holden Beach, NC. It is totally pet friendly with covered and gated front and back porches. Hardwood and laminate dog friendly floors are found throughout the house with tile in baths. This house sleeps 8 with 1 king, 2 queen and 2 single beds. It has a Jack and Jill arrangement with bedrooms on 4 corners and baths in between. One bath has a new tiled shower and the other has a standard tub/shower combination. The well stocked kitchen, dining area and den are located in the center of the house. All of the rooms are on one floor and are accessed by front and back stairs. If you are looking for big and flashy, this is not your house. It is well decorated and charming. It is located on a corner lot on the second row with beach access across the street and one house over. There is parking for three cars in yard and one under house. The back porch has an eating/sitting area with the washer/dryer in closet. Often deer walk up the gravel side street headed to the ocean after swimming across the intracoastal waterway to get to Holden which is an island. There is a swing under the front porch and an outside shower with hot and cold water. The front porch has peekaboo views of the ocean with multicolored rocking chairs for catching the ocean breeze. A Pawleys Island hammock is available for afternoon snoozing. One of the interesting features of Holden is the tall curved bridge which connects the island to the mainland. The island is great for bicycling, walking, jogging and strolling. It has a family friendly atmosphere, is never overcrowded, and there are no high rise units permitted. There is a great workout station in the center of the beach. The playground behind city hall near the bridge has added a water park to its children’s play area. Great care has been taken to nourish the beach and dunes and the beach is wide. There is a putt-putt course on the causeway and Beaches and Cream serves up some of the most delicious ice cream you have ever eaten. Holden Beach was recently named one of the top ten family beaches in the US. Bring your family and pets to What the Shell for a fantastic vacation!
Amenities: Cable TV (2), DSL internet, telephone,DVD,central HVAC, dishwasher,microwave,washer/
dryer,outdoor shower, beach umbrellas and beach chairs, bikes and peach and quiet. Bed linens and towels for each guest as well as kitchen towels are furnished and beds will be made on your arrival.
RENTS WEEKLY SUNDAY TO SUNDAY between Memorial Day and Labor Day, off season requires a 2 night minimal rental. *Our house is closed during December, January and February due to likelihood of frozen pipes in laundry room. Please visit before winter freeze or after spring thaw.*
