The cottage is separated from our main house by a large deck. Amenities include a hot tub on the deck, a gas grill and fire pit on the patio, small frog ponds, and a large (1 acre) spring fed pond. At the pond, you have use of a canoe and 2 kayaks (along with life vests) where you can fish for small mouth bass, sunfish and bluegills, sit on the dock, cook on the charcoal grill or relax in the hammock near the waterfall. There are short and long paths to hike or bike through the woods and lots of opportunities to view wildlife...a huge variety of birds, deer, turtles, frogs, toads, turkeys, and the occasional fox, coyote and bear.
Dancing Bears Guest Cottage is a serene, peaceful get-away where you can enjoy gazing at the stars at night without the glare of city lights. We are about 16 miles from Lexington with the Horse Center, VMI and the George C. Marshall Museum, the Stonewall Jackson House, and Washington & Lee University/Lee Chapel, Boxerwood, and nearby Natural Bridge & the Safari Park. We are about 20 miles from Staunton with Mary Baldwin College, the Blackfiars Playhouse, The Frontier Culture Museum, the Woodrow Wilson Birthplace, and Sunspots Glass Blowing Studio.

Reviews
It is obvious that the owners put a lot of love and detail in their backdoor cabin. There is no amenity missed and they strive for the comfort of their guests. We stayed for four nights and never left the property. We spent our mornings kayaking on the small pond (perfect size for my 6 year old to be independent), zip lining from the tree house (only sized for the kids), and hiking by the creek and up the mountain. We spent our afternoons with a visit to the hot tub, playing boards games (all provided), and checking out the cabin's library of movies. Our evenings were around the fire enjoying each other and the setting. It was exactly what we wanted for our little vacation. Thank you to Kathy and her family. We are very grateful. The Dancing Bears cottage proved to be the perfect location to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary. This luxury cottage is perfectly, and uniquely, appointed. It is a bit remote, but once you are there you will not want to leave. We especially enjoyed the company of the perpetually happy Rufus the Wonder Dog. Our host, Kathy, insured everything was perfect for our stay. Recommended for: Tourists without a Car, Romantic Getaway.
This was a surprise gift for my fiancé. Kathy was exceptionally helpfull prior to our arrival and throughout our entire stay. The cottage was clean and organized and Kathy was there to help with anything. My fiancé and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay even though the weather wasn't great. When we were getting ready to leave a pretty severe snow and ice storm was close to the area and we had a 3 hour drive back, Kathy called to let us know we could stay another night if we needed to wait out the storm. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone and we plan on going back again.
I absolutely loved the time I spent at the Dancing Bear Cottage. I should preface this post by saying that I am not an outdoorsy person. That being said, a few days getting away from everything was much needed. The property and the cottage are both amazing. Everything you need for a comfortable stay, with nothing that you don't. The cottage is nicely appointed. The kitchen is well equip, and the bed is very comfortable. The property is picturesque with lots of spots to sit and relax. While the owners weren't there during the visit, I felt incredible welcomed and comfortable. I loved walking around the property, checking out all the wildlife. It was quiet and relaxing. I was able to read, drink wine, enjoy some great food from the kitchen and grill. just what I needed. I hope to go back again. Recommended for: Romantic Getaway.
Every aspect of this property, cottage, amenities and idyllic natural setting is entirely charming- the hosts have thought of everything to make it easy to relax into the perfect 'get-away-from-it-all' experience.. we will definitely be going back to dancing bears cottage! Recommended for: Girls Getaway, Adventure Seekers, Romantic Getaway.
