Our Inside Guide to the Local Area - Just send us an inquiry and I’ll provide an Inside Guide to dining, attractions and area activities.
Maggie Valley is filled with a rich mountain history and one of a kind shops and restaurants. Located on the fringe of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and two national forests, outdoor pursuits like hiking, camping, biking, whitewater rafting and horseback riding are favorites. You can also head over to the Cataloochee Valley area of the park and see the elk, which have been successfully reintroduced into the park.
There are plenty of attractions and activities no matter the season. You can hop on the Blue Ridge Parkway and take in the magnificent vistas as you drive through miles and miles of scenic views. After spending the day hiking or rafting, Maggie Valley welcomes you for a restful evening on the town for a night of good food, music and dancing.
Fall is a wonderful time to enjoy the outdoors either as a leaf looker exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway or hiking to a commanding view in Pisgah National Forest. When the temperatures drop, Cataloochee Ski Area (entrance is only two miles away) begins churning out the snow and grooming the slopes. Cataloochee consistently has one of the longest-running ski seasons in the Southeast, and features a variety of trails, from steep black diamonds to easy runs for beginners. Snowboarders can carve the slopes or try the latest tricks at the terrain park.
For the kids, try miniature golf or snow tubing, go-cart racing, or snowboarding. Maggie Valley is also a great central location for mountain biking and road biking – head over to Tsali for a mountain biking day trip. The Blue Ridge Parkway is ideal for motorcyclists and driving tours, with spectacular views of the rolling mountains.
Also nearby is Waynesville, a vibrant, friendly small town nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with magnificent mountain views of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Fine shops, galleries, cafés & restaurants are all within walking distance of Main Street's tree lined brick sidewalks. Historic buildings, relaxing benches, public art & welcoming folks make Waynesville a thoroughly enjoyable place to live & visit. Numerous popular events, parades & festivals occur throughout the year. The heart of Appalachian culture and heritage, Waynesville hosts Folkmoot USA, North Carolina's official international music and dance festival annually.
Waynesville is home to Haywood Arts Regional Theater, an award winning theater, and The Museum of North Carolina Handicrafts at the historic Shelton House; a general store, book store, bakery, chocolate shop, brew pub, Christmas shop, clothing, jewelry and furniture stores, mountain trout, mountain golf, mountain music & dance, clean air, clean water, cool summers, dramatic autumns, mild winters, lush springtime, and Southern hospitality. Waynesville is the largest town in Western North Carolina west of Asheville.
