Why This Property?
For years my family rented a tiny cottage in the area so as to escape the city in the summer. We began loving it more and more and making our weekends longer and longer. When we made the leap to move up full time, we chose this location because it is on the border of Berkshire and Columbia Counties, near all the bright lights, yet very peaceful and tranquil. We were hoping to find a property wi ... more +
Unique Benefits
Swimming, canoeing, walking around the pond, enjoying the gardens, lazing about the property, watching the hummingbirds skim past the flowers. Wild life . Our friendly visiting deer families . Reading under a 100 year old tree. Listening to the trickle of the stream. Fresh air, sitting that first cup of coffee outside, exercising on the gazebo. Yoga . Slowing down.

A little paradise
Date of Stay: June 10th , 2017

My husband and I spent 4 nights in this beautiful and romantic cottage and property. The view from the cottage includes a very well kept perennial garden and pond. We had ouir morning coffee in the gazebo facing the pond where we saw a red wing blackbird and a hummingbird among many other species. It was lovely to wake up to the sounds of birds and frongs. The cottage is very comfortable and clean. The kitchen has every pot,pan and utensil you'll need. We took day trips to neighboring towns such as Great Barrington, Stockbridge, and Chatham. Don't miss the Bash Bish Falls hike where you can see a local waterfall. On this trip we also visited the Clark which is a fine art museum in Williams, Mass - a great find particularly if you're interested in representational painting. In the past, we've also enjoyed the contemprary exhibits at MASS MoCa and the incredible offerings of Tanglewood. If you like fresh and innovative cuisine with delicious vegetables, try the Blue Plate in Chatham, NY. For an outstanding grilled cheese sandwich, make sure to go to Rubi's in Great Barrington. Beth is a very gracious and kid host who is friendly and also respects your privacy. She is easy to reach if you have any concerns.

Cozy and charming romantic hideaway in New York close to the Berkshires
Date of Stay: August 25th , 2017

This was a great find and a gem. From the guest house on a spacious secluded property you can see the main house at a distance, but you have a real sense of privacy. Paramount is that this is a gorgeous property, with rolling fields, woods, deer who come up to the house, two lily ponds a la Monet, and a beautiful formal garden. Sitting indoors at the dining table, looking right out the window the first thing you see are these four lush garden plots with obvious attention to color and avoiding symmetry. Further on, there is a partly covered platform over the larger pond with comfortable deck chairs. You just want to stay there. And there is even a canoe. Also a place for outdoor dining and grilling. The house is well appointed with everything you would need in the kitchen. There is a wood burning stove for colder weather, and the bed is very comfortable. The good sized main room ( with bed and dining table) is bright and airy. Everything is clean and in good working order. The hostess is charming, bright, sophisticated, helpful, casual and discrete, and will respect your privacy, but also has lots of tips to hand out. She has a notebook with much information about the surrounding area, which was good because we never stayed on the New York side of the border at the Berkshires. It is convenient to all the cultural benefits of being in Western Mass, including Tanglewood, Mass MoCA , the Berkshire Theater Festival and Shakespeare and Company. Jacobs Pillow is of course farther off, but it always a bit of a trip. We ended up spending a fair amount of time at the cottage and the pond, because we wanted to relax and it is such an inviting place. I was a bit concerned about being on the New York side of the border, but is as close to the heart of the Berkshires as the description says it is. And it is close to Great Barrington which is one of our favorite cities in the area We hope to be back.

Cozy, Pretty, Private
Date of Stay: September 1st , 2017

Lovely little cottage with gorgeous views out of picture window of lovely garden. Beautiful pond with chairs outside to relax and contemplate...this place is perfect if you are seeking privacy. The bed was extremely comfortable which is not always the case, so that's important, even if a bit smaller than we are used to. Honestly described by the owner, so as expected. Kitchen was efficiency-style, with all needed dishes and utensils, but we ate out so other than coffee we didn't use it. The driveway was a bit difficult to find the first time as our GPS thought the address was much further up the road, so a clear marking might be helpful to visitors. Beth was really helpful; we had tickets for Tanglewood while we were there and I had somehow forgotten to bring a sheet to put our things on; Beth left us some extra towels we could us for that, as well as responded to any small questions and concerns in a kind and timely manner. It was too cold for us to use the pond, unfortunately, so perhaps we'll return in better weather! Thanks so much- we enjoyed our stay!
