About Ron and Linda
We've been coming to Dauphin Island since moving to Alabama in 2001. We've always found it somewhat difficult to travel with our dog pack, so we finally bought this place so they can come with us and enjoy the beach. We run an animal rescue organization in Birmingham. Visit at FCDF.org.
Why This Property?
Dauphin Island has the Gulf of Mexico on the south side and just a couple hundred yards away is the Mississippi Sound / Intercoastal Waterway on the north side. Dauphin Island is also a uniquely dog-friendly place, unlike anywhere else. There are very few places like Dauphin Island. If you're looking for a 'shopping mall by the sea', look elsewhere. There's no shortage of beach towns that have ... more +
Unique Benefits
You are renting a dock with this house. We cannot overstate what that adds to your stay. The Gulf beach is great, but having your own dock on the bay beach is a completely different experience. It’s like having a little cabin right on the water. Out the back door is the beach on the Mississippi Sound (aka, the bay). This beach is great for swimming, fishing and walking. We are the last hou ... more +

Fish Bones - Great Vacation Home!
Date of Stay: April 2nd , 2016

Our family has vacationed for many years on Dauphin Island but this was our first stay at Fish Bones. This is one of our favorite beach houses that we’ve rented to date! Ron was very pleasant to deal with, check in and check out were very simple, the entire home (rooms, beds, furniture, deck) is very comfortable and inviting, and to agree with other reviewers - the artwork all over the house is truly sensational. Lots of games are available and the TV is a nice size for watching a movie or hooking up a game system for those with teens! Taking your dog with you will be a breeze because they have everything you could think of from pet beds to dishes and even crates. Our hesitation at being on the bay side was quickly eliminated the moment we stepped out the back door. We took many walks along the bay side beach, and we took the short walk across the street when we felt like strolling along the gulf. Really the best of both worlds. This home is in a very nice location – not too crowded and so nice to have such easy access to both sides of the island. We took advantage of the crab trap and using a can of tuna with holes poked in it, we actually caught a crab to our son’s delight! Our favorite activities on Dauphin Island are walking the beach, biking along the bike path and through the neighborhoods, hiking through the bird sanctuary, picnicking in Cadillac Square, photographing the beautiful sunsets, and we can’t miss the trip to Bellingrath Gardens. We are fly fishers and have tried this in different areas on the island. My husband enjoyed walking hundreds of feet out from the dock casting his heart out but was no match for the pelicans diving at the fish all around him. You could hear him all the way back on the dock yelling at them in his own unique language, telling them to leave the cotton picken fish alone so he had half a chance! We brought 4 inflatable kayaks with us and enjoyed rowing around the bay – we even saw some baby dolphins one day escorting my son on either side of his kayak as he paddled hard to keep up with them! It was truly a memorable experience. The upper deck was a perfect place to get some kites up into the air and proved entertaining for adults and kids alike. We used the dock extensively – more than we thought we would. It was an entertainment area most unique. You won’t go wrong renting this home away from home on what we think is one of the greatest vacation spots around!

Date of Stay: July 30th , 2016

This is our 2nd time staying at Fish Tales. Absolutely Love the house and the view. This feels like our home away from home. Ron thank you so much for letting us enjoy a piece of heaven. My entire family loves Dauphin Island. We can't wait until we can book another vacation there. The sunrises and sunsets are great. We love how friendly people were that we ran into. The house is way bigger than what we need, but we love the location. My kids absolutely would live there if we could. If you are looking for a place to get away and not full of chain restaurants etc. This is the place. Ron has always taken great care of us and quick to responses. Thanks again for another great family vacation. Until we come again...

I cannot say enough about how wonderful our stay was at this vacation rental. It was perfect. The house has everything including a full size side by side refrigerator freezer and a large laundry room. The kitchen was well stocked with all the needed kitchen gadgets and the table sat 6. The beds are very comfortable and the AC units work great. The deck is an added plus. We caught 2 large red fish right of the pier which made for a delicious meal on the gas grill. Ron (Owner) was wonderful to work with and so was the rental agency. Folks on the island are real friendly and the island grocery is well stocked and not that more expensive then off the island. 5 stars all across the board.

Family and Dog friendly and peaceful
Date of Stay: June 6th , 2015

This is a great place for a family or several couples. The main living space is very bright and cheerful and the home is very nicely appointed with comfortable furniture and decorations. The laundry room is spacious and they have beds for dogs. The kitchen is well equipped and outdoor grill worked fine. The two-level dock is a real deal-sealer on this property. Sitting in the sun isn't really our speed, but chilling in the shade with a gulf breeze while some fish and others chat over a cold beer -- that was great. Some used the outdoor shower under the house and there are two hoses for washing feet and beach items off before you go in. We'd love to go back sometime. We were a mix of adults, one teen and one baby. It was perfect. The A/C in the main areas is very efficient. The bedrooms need air returns to move the A/C through, so if you close the door you may want to use the ceiling fan to add air movement. The master suite -- especially the bathroom -- is very nice. The staff in the management office is very friendly and made our stay even more comfortable.

The whole family wants to come back soon.
Date of Stay: May 5th , 2015

My family, five adults, one grandchild and three dogs, gathered here from their home states and had a great time. Every day we fished, swam and kayaked on the bay side then went over to the Gulf side to get tossed around by the surf. The steady south winds kept good waves coming in all week. The house is comfortable, well maintained and well equipped. We enjoyed the Audubon Bird Sanctuary and were impressed by the Sea Lab Estuarium.
